A series of five evening lectures known as “Mini-Medical School” kicks off next week to highlight major health issues.
Presented by physicians and scientists at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, the Wednesday-evening topics include organ transplants, prescription drugs, Parkinson’s disease and hand injuries.
The public is invited to attend the two-hour lectures for a cost of $50 per person for the entire series. That covers lecture notes and light refreshments — there is no homework or exam.
The lectures will be given from 6 to 8 p.m. at the UA College of Medicine, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., room 2117.
Seating is limited to 120 people, so reservations are necessary. Call 626-7301.

? Feb. 13: “How Basic Research Impacts Our Lives,” Vicki Chandler, Ph.D., director, BIO5 Institute.
? Feb. 20: “Update on Organ Transplantation,” Dr. John Renz, vice chief of transplantation, professor of surgery, UA department of surgery.
? Feb. 27: “Making the Most of Your Medications,” Kevin Boesen, doctor of pharmacy and director of experiential education, UA college of pharmacy.
? March 5: “Parkinson’s Disease — Update,” Cynthia Holmes, Ph.D., health psychologist, UA department of neurology.
? March 12: “Common Hand Injuries and Their Treatment,” Dr. Shoaib I. Sheikh, assistant professor, department of clinical orthopedic surgery.
